Agency Creatives Channel Warhol, Basquiat and Frida Kahlo in AICP’s Absurd Call for Entries

Winners will live forever in MoMA's film archive

The art world superstars of decades past were much like today’s top ad agency creative directors: insecure, megalomaniacal personalities driven by an incessant desire for the approval they never received as children.

Or so we hear.

However true that stereotype may or may not be, three top creatives put it to great use in the Association of Independent Commercial Producers’ latest call-for-entries film.

Seems that winning an AICP award and having one’s work added to the The Museum of Modern Art’s Department of Film archive might lead to rampant delusions of grandeur. Director Brian Billow of O Positive observes the phenomenon up close in a “documentary” short tracking the effects too many awards can have on a single, overly fragile ego.

Deutsch CCO Pete Favat does an admirable job in the role of Andy Warhol. He’s joined by FCB’s global CCO, Susan Credle, and 72andSunny executive creative director Keith Cartwright as Frida Kahlo and Jean-Michel Basquiat, respectively.

The three icons, who were all known for their groundbreaking work as well their personal quirks, make for both an amusing short and a timely call to get your entries in by the extended deadline.

“We love that in so many ways, industry leaders are always willing to support the mission of the AICP Awards to recognize craft and artistry during our call for entries,” said the organization’s president and CEO Matt Miller. “Can you think of a funnier way to inspire people to enter an awards show?”

Maybe if the AICP’s favorite artists were to go up against the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants in a friendly game of softball.
