After a 16-year partnership, DDB and Capital One are parting ways.
According to a Capital One spokesperson, the company recently conducted an agency review and selected Austin-based GSD&M as its agency of record.
“DDB has been a longtime partner, and we’ve appreciated their work throughout the years,” the Capital One spokesperson said.
DDB declined to comment, and GSD&M deferred to the client.
Capital One started working with DDB Chicago in 2004, ending the bank’s relationship with McCann. Last year, Jon Flannery, formerly executive creative director at FCB Chicago, joined DDB Chicago to oversee the Capital One account.
The move is another blow to DDB Chicago, which recently lost lead creative duties on State Farm to The Marketing Arm. Omnicom’s dedicated McDonald’s agency, We Are Unlimited, was recently folded into DDB Chicago after the fast-food chain named Wieden + Kennedy New York its lead U.S. creative agency.
In recent years, DDB Chicago has worked on Capital One’s March Madness campaigns. The agency’s multi-year “Road Trip” campaign starred Samuel L. Jackson, Charles Barkley and Spike Lee.
Last year, Capital One kicked off a partnership with Taylor Swift, which launched with a commercial starring the singer promoting the brand’s Savor card.
