Fallon didn’t have to look far for its new chief executive.
The Minneapolis-based agency promoted Rocky Novak to the position after nearly six years as managing director of Fallon’s Minneapolis headquarters. He replaces Mike Buchner, who transitioned into a chairman role at the beginning of the month. A 35-year agency veteran, Buchner had served as CEO since 2011.
“Rocky has a modern marketer’s skill set and has earned the trust of both our clients and employees alike while serving as our managing director the past several years,” Mike Buchner said in a statement. “His fearless optimism, proven track record of success and institutional knowledge will all be great assets as he leads Fallon into the future as our new CEO.”
“I am incredibly honored to lead the next chapter of Fallon’s story. Our industry is in an era of drastic change—across consumer behavior, technology and talent. But despite the changing variables, now is the time to be bold and push the boundaries of creativity,” Novak added.
An agency veteran of some 17 years, Novak joined Fallon as a media supervisor back in 2002. Before his most recent role, he spent nearly a decade as director of digital development.
Around two years ago, Fallon expanded to the East Coast with a New York office, following its acquisition of New York creative agency AR. Last May, Fallon named agency veteran Niki Dobratz as chief marketing officer, tasked with overseeing business development and growth.
The agency also had a short-term relationship with Papa John’s last summer. Papa John’s hired Fallon to handle brand campaigns a month after parting ways with former agency Laundry Service, which resigned the account following an incident in which the chain’s founder, John Schnatter, used racist language in a strategy call. Fallon claims it was unaware of the incident at the time it was hired and ended its relationship with the brand after only a month.
Fallon debuted its first campaign for new client Massage Envy back in January.
