Omnicom has hired a new chief creative officer to lead We Are Unlimited, the agency dedicated to McDonald’s that opened in Chicago earlier this year.

Toygar Bazarkaya, who held the role of chief creative officer of the Americas at Havas before leaving in March as the network reorganized its leadership teams around the world, begins his new role on May 15. This marks the first major hire for Ari Weiss, who became DDB North America’s first chief creative officer in February and oversaw We Are Unlimited’s creative work in that role.

Bazarkaya will report to Weiss and work alongside CEO Brian Nienhaus and the rest of the We Are Unlimited executive team.

“Toygar is one of those rare creative leaders who moves mountains,” Weiss said in a statement, citing the new chief’s work for brands like Mercedes, Gillette, Dos Equis and Visa. “I can’t wait to see what he does with the Golden Arches.”

According to the company, Bazarkaya was chosen for the role on the strength of “his repeatedly proven ability to create compelling work.” Prior to joining Havas in 2015, he spent more than five years with BBDO New York, where he led such accounts as Mars, Campbell’s, HP and Major League Baseball.

In his own statement, the incoming CCO described We Are Unlimited as “what happens when the stars align.”

“Great things happen when the best from every discipline collaborate with one common goal and one voice,” he said. “I couldn’t be more excited to join the team.”

During his 20-plus years in the ad industry, Bazarkaya has worked for a string of agencies including Jung Von Matt, DDB and Mullen. His work has won more than 20 Cannes Lions, and he will serve as foreman of the Craft in Advertising jury at D&AD as well as the jury president for the London International Awards’ TV/Cinema/Online Film category.

The relationship between Omnicom and McDonald’s has already been through one major change since We Are Unlimited opened and launched its first campaign in January. Earlier this month, the chain announced that chief marketing officer Deborah Wahl would be leaving after just over two years in the position. She will be replaced by Morgan Flatley, who previously led marketing efforts for the Gatorade and Propel brands at PepsiCo.
