Buffalo Wild Wings Announces New CMO Pick

Rita Patel, currently vp of brand management at Target, will assume the role in September

Rita Patel, currently vp of brand management at Target, will join Buffalo Wild Wings as chief marketing officer in September, the restaurant chain announced today.

Based in Atlanta and reporting directly to Buffalo Wild Wings president Lyle Tick, Patel will oversee advertising, digital innovation, menu development and the overall brand experience.

“Throughout her career, Rita has been known for her creative and strategic approach to building brands and engaging with consumers, while also demonstrating a strong drive for results,” Tick said in a statement. “Her unique experiences in consumer marketing for a variety of well-known global brands make her a natural fit for fan-favorite Buffalo Wild Wings.”

The announcement comes two months after the departure of former Buffalo Wild Wings CMO Seth Freeman, who held the position for less than two years. Neither the brand nor Freeman offered an explanation for the top marketer’s exit.

“I had a blast working on the Buffalo Wild Wings brand,” said Freeman, adding that he’s looking forward “to sharing what God has in store for my next adventure very soon.”

Prior to her role at Target, Patel held high-level marketing positions at MillerCoors, Wrigley and Beam Suntory. She’ll start at Buffalo Wild Wings on Sep. 14.
