Caucus Commotion

It’s been one crazy weekend in Iowa.
Iowans can’t make that claim too often. But every four years, when the presidential caucuses come to town, the whole nation turns to the Hawkeye State for more than just bacon.
Never accuse the folks at Meyocks & Priebe in West Des Moines of not recognizing opportunity when it punches them in the snout. The shop created for the occasion a full-page ad on behalf of the Greater Des Moines Partnership, a chamber of commerce consortium, that will run in Tuesday editions of USA Today.
“Thousands of politicians and reporters descend on Greater Des Moines every four years,” reads a large headline. “We stay year round. Find out why at”
“The whole idea is to target companies and the national media about the business opportunities here,” said agency representative Tom Gahm. “It’s a great way to get exposure.”
Iowa, like many Midwest farm states, suffers from a “brain drain” and needs skilled workers as well as business development. The caucuses, held today, provide only a momentary economic shot in the arm.
“Tuesday morning,” said M&P account manager Mike Ferrari, “the party’s over.”
