ChaCha, a Web and mobile search service that answers any and all questions from users, today launched a companion business, ChaChacoupons.com, a retail coupon service that allows consumers to access special offers online and on mobile devices.
Available initially in Indianapolis, ChaChacoupons is slated to roll out this year in Philadelphia, Phoenix, Chicago, Salt Lake City, New York and Dallas, followed by Los Angeles in early 2010.
Times are good for going into the coupon business. Coupon redemption nationally jumped 10 percent in the fourth quarter of 2008, according to Inmar, a coupon processing company. In the first half of this year, coupon redemption climbed 23 percent, with 1.6 billion coupons redeemed. More than 3 billion coupons are expected to be redeemed this year.
Visitors to ChaChacoupons can search for coupons and special offers by business type, location and other parameters and print coupons at their desktops or send them to mobile devices to be redeemed at retail. The site also offers retail hours, addresses and driving directions, as well as the opportunity to sign-up with specific retailers for cellphone offers and news.
At launch, Indianapolis-area advertisers on the site include Bar Louie, David & Mary Salon and Spa, Fast Tans, Frankey’s, Godby Home Services, Pet Supplied Plus, Puccini’s, Revolution Eyes, Rock Bottom and Stanley’s N.Y. Deli.
“Coupons are a fantastic way for local businesses to introduce themselves to consumers or simply increase in-store traffic by making special offers,” said Scott Jones, CEO and founder of Carmel, Indiana-based ChaCha.
ChaChaCoupons will also be linked to ChaCha’s original business, an advertiser-supported search service that draws more than 9 million unique Web and mobile users per month.
