Chilean TV Stations Won’t Give Free Time to Candidates

SANTIAGO, CHILE – The National Association of Television of Chile has given notice to the government that private TV channels will not give free political advertising time during the national elections here in December. The NAT contends that the law determining that political advertising should be carried free was instituted when most stations were either state-owned or heavily subsidized by the government, which is no longer the case.
