NEW YORK Rob DeFlorio, one of the co-founders of Mother New York, is leaving the agency to pursue personal interests.
“I feel the time is right to move out and move on,” said DeFlorio, in a statement. “I’ve begun the process of unplugging from the day-to-day world of business and marketing in order to focus all my energy on my personal life. It’s something I really want to do.”
DeFlorio helped launch Mother New York in December 2003 along with strategist Andrew Deitchman and creative directors Paul Malmstrom and Linus Karlsson. He began his career on the agency side in the late-1980s at Chiat/Day, New York. In 1991, he joined join Nike, where he spent 11 years as U.S., European, and finally global advertising director.
In 2002, DeFlorio stepped out of early retirement from Nike to launch the New York agency. “It was a challenge I couldn’t ignore. I am very proud of what Mother New York has accomplished and what we’ve become,” he said. “The best days of Mother are clearly ahead of her.”
DeFlorio will continue to reside in New York and plans to spend his free time pursuing his passion for outdoor sports and helping raise his 1-year-old daughter.
