Clinical trial company Quintiles has hired Doremus to handle global corporate image duties after a review.
Sources identified the other finalist as Interpublic Group’s Draftfcb in New York. Billings on the assignment, which also includes media duties, are estimated at $15-20 million.
In additional to traditional ads, the Omnicom Group shop will handle digital and customer relationship management efforts. Its first work is expected in the first quarter of 2010.
“Doremus understood our business,” said Millie Tan, chief marketing officer at Quintiles, which is based in Research Triangle Park, N.C. The agency’s executives “came to the table with a big campaign idea and creative ways to connect with our customers and prospects globally.”
AAR Partners in New York helped manage the review.
Among other services, Quintiles conducts clinical trials for drugs developed by pharmaceutical companies.
Quintiles’ global media spending total was not immediately available. In the U.S., the company’s major media spending has been modest in recent years, totaling less than $1 million last year and about $500,000 in the first eight months of 2009, according to Nielsen. In 2007, the company spent more than $2 million in media, per Nielsen. Those figures don’t include online spending.
Executives from Doremus’ offices in New York and London contributed to its pitch, including N.Y. chief creative officer Evelyn Neill and Howard Sherman, who is worldwide president and managing director in New York. The business will be run out of the New York office.
