Google “Chrome Speed”

What’s faster, lightning or Google Chrome? Bartle Bogle Hegarty finds out in this fun Web video promoting the browser. The clip pits Chrome against a potato gun, sound waves and finally a man-made micro lightning bolt. A potato is sent hurtling through a slicer while Chrome loads its search for A note is hit on a keytar, sending pink paint shooting up to a giant ear hanging a speaker as Chrome loads And in the most daring feat, a mini lightening lightning bolt sends 4.2 million volts of energy into a tiny pirate ship that bursts into flame while Chrome loads Do we care that Chrome is faster than any of these things? Not really. But, who cares? The comparisons are ridiculous, but the inventive trials are fascinating to watch, memorable and lend valuable whimsy and personality to Google and Chrome. A shot of a figurine singing from his safe perch is a nice final touch. –Eleftheria Parpis
