A Questionnaires Due for $140 Mil. USPS Account
NEW YORK–Pre-qualifier applications are due back Feb. 1 to The United States Postal Service, whose $140 million account went into review when contracts expired in December [Adweek, Dec. 20]. Incumbents are FCB Worldwide, Young & Rubicam, both New York; and Draft Worldwide and Frankel & Co., both Chicago. Client representative Gerry Kreienkamp said USPS sent out 170 applications last month. The client will send RFPs to shops that make the initial cut by mid- to late-February, he said.
A Subway Taps 3 for $60 Mil. Media Review
LOS ANGELES–Subway has narrowed its $60 million media planning and buying review to MediaCom, TN Media and Western Initiative Media Worldwide. Contenders in a separate creative review will make presentations on Feb. 1, and a list of semi-finalists will then be determined. Shops will be visited in mid-Feburary, followed by a cut to three finalists. Final pitches are slated for March 22-23. AAR/Bob Wolf Partners, New York, is handling both reviews.
A Deloitte Touche Is Out of Touch
NEW YORK–Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu International’s search for an agency to handle its $50 million account is in a state of limbo more than eight months after it began. A spokesperson at DDB, New York, a finalist along with Keiler & Co., Farmington, Conn., and Ogilvy & Mather, New York, said the agency has not heard from the client “in months.” Keiler also has not heard from the client and considers itself out of the running. Sources said Deloitte is in contract negotiations with Ogilvy, which would not confirm the win. The client did not return calls.
A Land Rover Names 9 in $35 Mil. Review
NEW YORK–Land Rover named nine agencies in the review for its $35 million account, said Jim Selwa, vp, marketing at the Lanham, Md., company. They are: Gotham, Hampel/Stefanides, Kirshenbaum Bond & Partners and M&C Saatchi, all New York; Crispin Porter & Bogusky, Miami; GSD&M, Austin, Texas; Hill, Holliday, Connors, Cosmopulos, Boston; The Richards Group, Dallas; and WestWayne, Atlanta. Richard Roth & Associates, Chappaqua, N.Y., is handling the review. Incumbent Grace & Rothschild declined to defend.
A Founders Gier, Sciarrotta Leave Leapnet
CHICAGO–George Gier and Joe Sciarrotta, founding partners of what is now Leapnet, have left the company. Last week, Leapnet announced plans to merge with SPR, an information technology consulting company. Leap’s third founder, Fred Smith, will become chairman of the merged entity, while SPR’s Robert Figliulo will be CEO.
