IndoorDirect, owner and operator of several out-of-home digital video networks, has formed a new advisory board featuring some big names from the media industry, including Jon Mandel (pictured), former chief of strategic solutions at WPP’s GroupM and founding CEO of NielsenConnect.
The Dallas-based company’s Restaurant Entertainment Network delivers Internet-based video content and advertising to more than 1,000 quick-service and family-dining venues nationwide, including Wendy’s, Denny’s, Arby’s, Carl’s Jr., Hardee’s and McDonald’s. The network says it reaches more than 150 million consumers annually.
Other members appointed to the board include Tony Thomopoulos, the former head of ABC Television and ex-CEO of United Artists Pictures, and Mark Lazarus, the former Turner Entertainment Group president who now leads Career Sports and Entertainment’s media and marketing division. In addition, David Weitzner, a veteran Hollywood studio marketing exec, and John Mass, a 20-year veteran of the William Morris Agency, have joined.
Commenting on the creation of the new board, IndoorDirect CEO Fred Margolin said the members’ “depth of knowledge and expertise will help us to define this dynamic new category of restaurant entertainment and to refine our offering to ensure it is the preeminent solution for advertisers.”
Through partnerships with content providers, the Restaurant Entertainment Network produces a mix of music, sports and pop culture programs. Participating restaurants are allotted time on the network to tout their own products. After signing on last year, Mark Chmiel, Denny’s chief marketing and concept officer, said, “We looked at it as a vehicle to up-sell product like our new Rockstar Menu and enhance the guest experience.”
