Microsoft is preparing to launch its Windows 7 across China and has appointed WPP Group’s JWT to handle the creative business.
This is the first time JWT China will work with Microsoft. The agency will be responsible for the creative development supporting Windows 7’s launch.
Sources said that a total of nine agencies were involved in the pitch for Windows 7’s creative business in China.
While the value of the new business was undisclosed, the global launch of Windows 7 was said to be Microsoft’s biggest marketing push of the year.
MDC Partners’ Crispin Porter + Bogusky led the rollout in numerous global markets last fall, including France, Germany, the U.K., Canada, Australia and the U.S. Domestically, Microsoft spent $80 million on media backing the intro in the last quarter of 2009 and almost $115 million on Windows 7 ads through the first half of 2010, per Nielsen. The China push would likely be comparable.
