Kosmala Joins 4As’ Washington Team

Will serve as principal representative at regulatory agencies

The Digital Advertising Alliance's Peter Kosmala is jumping to the American Association of Advertising Agencies as senior vp of government relations, beginning March 1. Kosmala's move comes less than a year after he joined the online ad industry's self-regulatory organization as its first managing director.

Kosmala succeeds Linda Dove, who is retiring.

As part of the 4As' government relations team, Kosmala will be the ad agency organization's principal representative at federal regulatory agencies such as the Federal Trade Commission and the Department of Commerce (which recently released its privacy green paper), as well as 50 state governments. He reports to Dick O'Brien, the 4As' executive vp of government relations.

Though he's leaving the DAA, it is only in name only since the 4As is one of the founding organizations. "I'm still in the DAA family. I still have a voice in the strategy and direction of the self-regulatory program," he said. Kosmala will also continue to manage the DAA's consumer branding campaign he launched, Youradchoices.com.

O'Brien, who said Kosmala will act as his "alter ego" will work closely together as a team.

"This is a perfect time for Peter to come on board because in an election year, there is less policy activity. The White House and Congress will be preoccuppied," said O'Brien, who expects ore active lobbying next year. "If we have an issue, it won't be food or privacy, but possibly tax code reform. We'll spend the year instructing and educating why advertising should be treated as a fully deductible business expense," he said.

Prior to the DAA, Kosmala was assistant director of the International Association of Privacy Professionals. He got his start in the agency business, holding positions at EURO RSCG/MVBMS Partners and Wells Rich Greene/BDDP.
