K&S Taps Creative Bui

Shop Creates Position for Italia/Gal Veteran
LOS ANGELES–Veteran Los Angeles-area art director Joe Bui has been named vice president and creative director, a new position, at Kalis & Savage Advertising.
The job’s duties had been handled by the shop’s chairman, Murray Kalis.
“They are really nice people, and I have a strong connection with them,” Bui said of the shop he joined several weeks ago. “The amount of opportunity [there] was too good to refuse.”
Bui also said the Pacific Palisades, Calif., agency’s strong commitment to creative influenced his move.
Bui most recently served as creative group head at Italia/Gal Advertising in Los Angeles. That position was recently filled by Holly Hood, who was named creative director/senior vice president [Adweek, Oct. 18].
Bui was introduced to Kalis by John Armistead, former executive creative director of D’Arcy Masius Benton & Bowles’ Los Angeles office. Bui and Armistead worked together on several accounts at D’Arcy, including General Motors. Bui also worked at Dailey & Associates, West Hollywood, Calif., and Kresser Craig in Los Angeles.
“We’re growing and wanted to be sure to continue to grow,” said Kalis. “Joe is a huge asset to the agency.”
K&S now boasts over 25 employees and $40 million in billings. Recently added clients include Internet-based messaging and communications service provider JFax.com and personal Web page developer HomePage.com.
The shop has also expanded its tasks on existing accounts, including executive search firm Futurestep.com. What started as a national $2-3 million TV, radio and print assignment has grown into global ad duties with several of Futurestep.com’s international alliances, said Kalis. –with James Zolta
