Lehrer is Romann’s Optimum Choice

P.J. Lehrer, vice president, group management representative on Grey Advertising’s $30 million Sprint business, has joined The Romann Group as its second svp, account director.
Lehrer will work on Cablevision’s Optimum Online account exclusively. The service provides Net access through TVs in the tristate area.
“I’ve spent my whole career in large agencies and feel I’ve made a contribution,” she said. “This is the closest I can come to having my own agency, because that’s how important a role I expect to play.”
“She is one of those difficult-to-find people who have a deep knowledge of technology and who can develop an e-commerce mindset,” Gad Romann, creative director, said in a statement.
Cablevision, with all units, spent $40 million on media through September ’99, per Competitive Media Reporting. Optimum numbers were unavailable.
Lehrer, 39, began her career at Grey in 1982 as a media assistant. In 1984, she moved to Ted Bates Advertising, now called Bates Worldwide.
She cut her teeth as a telecom specialist at McCann-Erickson, at which she worked from ’87 to ’98, first on AT&T. She became management representative on Lucent Technologies in ’96, when it launched its $100 million global branding campaign.
“She was a terrific account person and we’ll miss her,” said Dick Krain, a Grey svp, who worked with Lehrer on Grey’s Dexatrim business.
The shop’s other svp, account director is David Katz, who oversees Benihana and Finlandia Swiss Cheese, among other accounts.
