Matt Damon, Uzo Aduba and Other Celebrities Come Out in Force for New Stand Up To Cancer PSA

Ad will air during tonight's MLB All-Star game

There will be plenty of stars on the diamond at Progressive Field in Cleveland for the MLB All-Star game this evening, but there will also be stars standing in the bleachers.

A new celebrity-driven PSA from Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C) will debut during the game. The 60-second video features Matt Damon, Uzo Aduba, Zachary Levi and more holding SU2C’s signature placards that show the far-reaching effects of cancer on everyone in the stadium.

“For All the Moments We Stand Up” focuses on the small parts of attending a baseball game that transcend the game itself to become part of the American lexicon. The goal is to set the scene of the community, showing how we are all in this together, before hitting the emotional finale of how cancer has affected that community.

The MLB was the founding donor of SU2C back in 2008. Since then, the league has donated more than $50 million to the organization which has helped lead to six new cancer therapies that have been approved by the FDA.

“We are proud that our partnership with Stand Up To Cancer has had a significant impact on cancer research over the last decade,” said Baseball Commissioner Robert D. Manfred Jr. “This year’s campaign is yet another example of our sport’s commitment to raising awareness around this disease until every person who is battling cancer becomes a survivor.”

SU2C’s placards have been featured at every All-Star Game and World Series since they first debuted in 2011. They are simple and have a place for people to write the name or relationship of someone they know who has been affected by the disease. Unfortunately, almost everyone has someone quickly come to mind.

“Each year, the sight of thousands of fans from all walks of life, standing together, holding placards in support and in memory of loved ones, is such a powerful and emotional moment,” said Rusty Robertson, a co-founder of SU2C. “The MLB has amplified SU2C’s rallying cry across the nation, underscoring that all of us are touched by cancer in some way—and that no one is alone in this. We must come together to raise our voices.”

While the All-Star Game acts as a celebration for MLB players and a brief respite from the long season, it also is a chance for the MLB to showcase the good the league has done for cancer research. SU2C is one of the leading companies making real change in the fight against cancer, and MLB has been helping them every step of the way.
