Maybe I’m a Mac and a PC

While Apple’s “I’m a Mac, I’m a PC” ads have fostered the notion that Mac and PC owners are distinct human types, the reality is muddier. A report this month by The NPD Group says 85 percent of households that own an Apple computer also own a Windows-based PC.

This reflects the fact that Apple owners have disproportionate amounts of electronics in general. Forty-nine percent of Apple-owning households also own a navigation system, vs. 30 percent of all computer households; 18 percent own an LCD television set (vs. 8 percent); 20 percent own a flash camcorder (vs. 5 percent).

In all, Apple households own an average of 48 consumer-electronics devices, vs. 24 for non-Apple households.
