McCann Worldgroup Makes Exec Moves

New McCann Worldgroup CEO Nick Brien has begun to assemble his top team, with a focus on the Interpublic Group unit’s approach to global strategy. A key part of that effort is bringing Universal McCann’s Daryl Lee, head of global strategy at the media agency, into the Worldgroup fold as chief integration architect, a new position.

Lee now assumes responsibility for building and leading the strategic planning function across Worldgroup companies to support global clients’ integrated marketing communications.
In addition, Lee Daley, chief strategist, Worldgroup EMEA and global director of strategic solutions, has been promoted to chief strategy officer for McCann Erickson Worldwide.

Eric Einhorn will continue as Worldgroup chief strategy officer, also leading a new corporate planning function with a heavy emphasis on emerging markets and brands. He will also focus on multinational clients, particularly General Motors and Unilever, as well as pursuing proprietary innovations that extend beyond conventional marketing communications. 
Brien, the former Mediabrands CEO who assumed the top job at Worldgroup in April, cited the organization’s history of building and working for top global brands and emphasized the need for greater integration of their marketing activities.

“The need to architect and manage these brand activities pre-store, in-store and post-store to ensure the effectiveness of the marketing funds invested by our clients demands a consistency of strategic planning approaches, as well as standards of excellence in everything we do,” he said, in a statement. “Each of these three talented players is an exceptional strategist in his own right. Working closely together as a strategic leadership team, I am confident that McCann Worldgroup will swiftly establish a new industry standard for cutting-edge strategic thinking.”

Replacing Lee as global head of strategy at UM is Jim Elms, a longtime friend and colleague of UM CEO Matt Seiler. Elms most recently served at Grey as evp, director of context planning. He also previously worked at Barkley in Kansas City as evp, director of insight and delivery, and at Wieden + Kennedy in Portland, Ore., where he managed the global Nike business.
Commenting on that hire, Seiler said, “I have known Jim a long time and the choices he has made in where he has lived and worked display a curiosity that will augment and refresh our offering.”
