– IPG Acquires Hispanic Agency
NEW YORK„The Interpublic Group of Cos., New York, has acquired Hispanic shop Casanova Pendrill Publicidad. Founded in 1984, the Irvine, Calif., agency, which offers advertising, media and promotional services, claims billings of more than $50 million. It will continue to be headed by current management and will be closely allied with IPG agency Campbell Mithun Esty in Minneapolis.
– Gotham Lands Newman›s Own Account
NEW YORK„Gotham was named the first ad agency for Newman›s Own, Westport, Conn., a company founded by actor Paul Newman which donates all profits to charity. Campaign plans and budgets were undisclosed. The New York agency will handle all the client›s products, including its pasta sauces, salad dressings and salsas.
– IntelliQuest Joins Millward Brown
NEW YORK„Millward Brown completed its acquisition of IntelliQuest Information Group following approval of the deal by IntelliQuest stockholders. Millward Brown, a unit of the Kantar Group, WPP Group›s information and consultancy division, said IntelliQuest becomes part of the Millward Brown Group, Chicago, specializing in brand development research. Based in Texas, IntelliQuest provides information services to technology companies.
– Leo Group Expands Black Pencil Into U.S.
CHICAGO„The Leo Group has opened a U.S. office of its Black Pencil Group subsidiary, a full-service network that has been operating since 1991 in Europe, South America and Asia. The Chicago office starts with two clients: Kellogg›s recently acquired Worthington Foods and Freudenberg Hausholtsprodukte, a German-based producer of Vileda floor-care products.
– Arnold Pushes Bell Atlantic›s Long Distance
BOSTON„Arnold Communications is preparing radio, print and TV ads to launch Bell Atlantic into the long-distance market. The ads, featuring Bell Atlantic pitchman James Earl Jones, roll out this month. Bell Atlantic is the first local phone carrier to enter the $80 billion long-distance market, having received FCC approval last month. Roster shops La Agencia de Orci in Los Angeles and Burrell Communications in Chicago are also working on assignments. Zenith Media Services and Media Direct Partners, both New York, handle media.
– KeyCorp Banking on Campbell Mithun Esty
CHICAGO„KeyCorp has named Campbell Mithun Esty its national agency of record. The Minneapolis agency will create advertising and collateral materials for the Cleveland-based bank›s major lines of business and handle media duties. Wyse Advertising, Cleveland, retains local ad duties. CME won the $13 million account after a three-month review conducted by Rojek Marketing Group in Cleveland. Incumbent The Lord Group in New York did not participate. Contenders were undisclosed.
– Japanese Shop in Korean Joint Venture
TOKYO„Hakuhodo, Japan›s No. 2 agency, has formed a joint venture partnership in Seoul, Korea, with Cheil Communications, Korea›s largest agency. The new agency, called Hakuhodo Cheil, was created Dec. 17 when Hakuhodo agreed to purchase 51 percent of Cheil Bozell Inc. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed, but Hakuhodo is believed to have paid 7 billion Korean won, about $6.2 million, according to sources in Korea.
