Nissan Names Marketing Chief

After a brief fling with Hyundai vet Joel Ewanick, Nissan has drawn a new head of marketing from its own ranks.

Jon Brancheau (pictured) has been named vp, marketing, Nissan division, after a stretch as director of global Infiniti marketing communications and media. Infiniti is the luxury car unit of Nissan.

Brancheau joined Nissan in 2008 from General Motors, where he was director of media operations, overseeing the buying and planning of all media across GM’s brands. He had been with GM since 1984, and held a variety of posts, including director of marketing for Cadillac.

The appointment comes after Ewanick’s six-week stint with Nissan that began in mid-March and ended in early May, when Ewanick announced he was leaving to become vp, marketing at GM.

According to Nielsen, Nissan spent $402 million on measured media in 2009, down 51.4 percent from the previous year. Meanwhile, car sales fell 19.7 percent to 770,000 units, according to Autodata.
