Shutterstock Design Team Gussies Up the Oscars

This year's theme was "Pop Art"

It’s an annual tradition. Each year around this time, Shutterstock releases poster mash-ups of the Best Picture nominees, created by design team members using clip-art assets from the company’s massive database. This year’s theme was “Pop Art.”

For the poster above, graphic designer Alice Lee channeled Roy Lichtenstein. “I love Lichtenstein’s comic style and bold colors,” she explains. “I made Amy Adams’ character into one of Lichtenstein’s heroines, trying to make sense of her extraordinary situation.”

Meanwhile, in honor of the movie that will own the City of Stars this coming Sunday, Lee’s colleague Abbey Katz tapped the creative spirit of the Scottish-born pop artist Eduardo Paolozzi. “Just like the film, his work has a feeling of energy and fantasy with serious undertones,” says Katz.

Katz, a graduate of the Parsons School of Design, has also worked over the years for Esquire, Essence and Fortune. Lee spent some time in early 2016 as a creative intern at BBDO Worldwide before joining Shutterstock in the spring of that year. Check out the rest of the Shutterstock “Pop Art” posters here.
