For those of us squarely in the “Tiffany Haddish Can Do No Wrong” camp, a new series of Groupon ads shows that, even in 15 seconds, she can reel you in. The star of The Last O.G. and one of the hardest working people in show business is not only a revelation in entertainment but is a powerful force for transforming the couponing platform.
A vibrant spokesperson, Haddish has breathed energy and life into the brand and, as Groupon points out, “ranks in the top one percent of most frequent Groupon purchasers [and] she’s also been a strong Groupon advocate with her fellow celebrities and co-stars.” One particularly big moment from the brand came when Haddish recounted a Louisiana swamp tour (paid for with Groupon, of course) with Girl’s Trip co-star Jada Pinkett-Smith and her husband, Will Smith.
“It’s only natural that I’m promoting something that I use all of the time,” said Haddish in a statement. “Plus, you know me, I love bragging about all of the great deals I get and sharing the experiences with my friends. With all of the money you’ll be saving, you can put your kids through college because you about to get paid.”
Fun times in the bayou notwithstanding, Groupon is benefiting greatly from the wisdom of choosing Haddish and new work, from O’Keefe Reinhard & Paul, follows up from previous Super Bowl and Valentine’s Day ads, just in time for summer.
The 30-second spot, which shows the Groupon “Circle of Life,” is an appetizer for a series of 15-second cuts that show Haddish’s comedic chops, covering the range of Groupon fineries like restaurants, spas, playtime for the kids and nightclubs.
It’s hard to pick a favorite because the levity comes at you fast and dense, without giving anything away until the end (for the record, we’d love to see alternate takes and gag reels, please) where you’re guaranteed a laugh. But if we are forced to choose, “Foodies” might be the winner since we’ve all been a party to someone looking for that perfect, yet undeniably annoying, Instagram moment.
