Pepsi Max Shucks Corn in ‘Field of Dreams’ Homage

If you thought Taco Bell was going back a long way with its recent send-up of Wedding Crashers, wait until you see this new Pepsi Max ad from TBWA\Chiat\Day, which riffs on Field of Dreams—a mere 22 years after it hit theaters. Sportswriters have long considered "If you build it, they will come" to be one of the most tired clichés in America, and I can't say Pepsi has proven them wrong. The ad is packed to the cornhole with baseball stars of all eras, including C.C. Sabathia, Ozzie Smith, Randy Johnson, three Rickey Hendersons, Babe Ruth's back and Rollie Fingers's waxed moustache. But the concept just doesn't seem to go anywhere. Maybe it will appeal to those who pine for a simpler time, when baseball was still the American pastime and Kevin Costner still had potential.
