Rock Band Storms Your iTunes, Disses Your Collection

Headshot of Tim Nudd

Rock bands that attempt marketing stunts are usually on the nerdy side. Think Weezer or OK Go. But now, a Parisian band named (not very innovatively) the Parisians is going in the other direction—crafting a whole online campaign around the fact that they're dicks. The campaign, dreamed up by some other dicks at DDB Paris, involves a curious use of cover art in iTunes. Here's how it works: DDB created 18 fake covers for the band's new album. When you import the covers into your iTunes, and then turn on the screen saver, they trash talk the covers surrounding them. Watch the video—it explains it better. The whole thing is sort of interesting although it doesn't really accomplish the goal, if it's to make the band look badass. First of all, you'll likely disagree with their assessments if you have this other music in your collection at all. And second, if you really are an asshole, you probably don't go around doing goofy Internet stunts designed to make you look like an asshole. Do you?
