Kevin Hart for 2016 Oscars Host

We are fully in favor of Scott Feinberg's hunch.

KevinHartCostaRicaZiplineIn his THR analysis of the Academy’s choice of Reginald Hudlin and David Hill as the producers of the next Oscars telecast, our colleague Scott Feinberg included the following:

I have a strong suspicion that Hudlin and Hill will tap Kevin Hart for the [hosting] job – the comedian has said it is his dream to host, promising to “turn that event into a youthful night,” and I think he would be a brilliant choice who would explode the show’s ratings.

FishbowlNY thinks this is a smart idea. The Oscars as we know them are over. It’s time for a new kind of host (not named Franco).

Very conveniently, the newly released schedule for the 2016 international leg of Hart’s comedy tour is wide open when it Oscars matters most, with a wide gap between Sydney on Feb. 7 and Cape Town March 26 ready to be filled.

Also, how can you not love a guy who ejects from his live performances patrons who ignore a clearly stated cell phone use ban? Certainly, this letter to the editor doubles as a vote from the people for Hart to bring it next February at the Dolby:

To the Editor:

Kevin Hart enforces his own cellphone ban. It’s about time cellphone bans were enforced!

Obviously, Hart has the power and motivation to do what people in other public places choose not to do. Every medical waiting room I’ve ever been in has numerous signs posted forbidding the use of cellphones. And every waiting room has people using cellphones, often within a few feet of the sign! So who does anything about it? The receptionists? The nurses? No way. I guess that’s not their job.

One cannot expect people to obey rules when they know they won’t be enforced. Kevin Hart, you’ve sent an urgent message. Way to go! Keep it up. You’ve managed to control behavior that is annoying. Next step is to enforce traffic laws that will save lives and reduce injuries, insurance claims and insurance costs. Nah — that’ll never happen. Nobody in law enforcement is motivated or bold enough to do what Kevin Hart did.

Hart will be in Las Vegas this holiday weekend, rocking out the Cosmopolitan’s Marquee club. Hanging with a median-age audience that the Academy board dreams of.
