The Facebook Awards, formerly the Facebook Studio Awards, recognize the best creative work on the social network’s platform, and the fifth year of the initiative brought some changes along with it.

Facebook said in an email to SocialTimes that in an effort to “further internationalize” the Facebook Awards for 2016, creative work from all countries is now eligible, with local creative executives from each region—Asia-Pacific, Europe/Middle East/Africa, Latin America and North America—serving as judges.

The social network added that the judging process has been extended to three rounds in order to accommodate the larger volume of entries, and the top winners from each regional event will advance to the global judging event. The judging timetable follows:

  • April: Members of the Facebook Creative Shop will review submissions and determine which ones will proceed to regional voting events.
  • May: Regional winners will be selected.
  • June: The top winners from the regional events will advance to the global judging event in New York, where the best campaigns in each category will be selected.

Other changes include:

  • Small and midsized businesses that have “have earned effective, eye-opening results” will be recognized, with winners in this category receiving Facebook ad credits.
  • Categories have been updated: Best use of Facebook family of brands, innovation, small business, social for good and integrated.
  • The entry and judging process is now all-mobile.

Facebook said in its email:

The 2015 awards represented our biggest and most inspiring creative collection yet. Facebook reviewed more than 2,700 submissions from 160 countries that offered a snapshot of the state of creativity and innovation across Facebook, Instagram and the entire industry.

With so many countries outside of the U.S. submitting their work for the 2015 awards, it was clear that we had to further internationalize this year’s awards so we could celebrate more work in more countries. But more internationalization is only one of the new things we are doing this year.

The social network added that the 2,700-plus submissions in 2015 were up 49 percent from 2014, with 37 percent coming from the Asia-Pacific region, 30 percent from Europe/Middle East/Africa, 21 percent from Latin America and 12 percent from North America. A total of 111 campaigns made the short list last year, and 86 were named winners.
