Friends of Zynga’s Gems with Friends can now play a similar title on Facebook, as ‘2048’ is available to play for free. 2048 asks players to move numbered tiles around a game board using their arrow keys, with the goal being to create a tile worth 2,048 points. Players can manually meld tiles in relation to the arrow key they press, making the game more about skill than speed.
The game starts with two tiles, and asks players to press the up, down, left and right arrow keys to move these tiles around. With each move, another tile is added to the board.
Tiles slide as far as they can, until they hit the edge of the board or another tile. If a tile slides into another with the same number, they meld and create a tile with a higher digit. That is, if a ‘2’ tile slides into another ‘2’ tile, the two combine to form a ‘4’ tile.
If the board fills with no remaining moves, the game ends and players can share their high scores with friends. Gamers can track their high scores on the in-game leaderboard.
To reward player loyalty, users earn a score boost of up to 10 percent, based on the number of days they’ve logged into the game.
