From ads and UX to maternity wear

Facebook IQ's data charts, called Topics to Watch, are designed to help marketers know what subjects to look out for on the social network. They are based on trending data, and Adweek readers get an exclusive look at them each month.

The latest edition includes an interesting mix of six subjects that in no particular order are picking up speed on Facebook:

  1. Copywriting
  2. Advertising
  3. Social media
  4. User experience (UX)
  5. Maternity clothing
  6. Sportswear

Business-to-business marketers can learn a lot from the first four, while Nos. 5 and 6 can help out creatives focused on messaging to consumers. Millennials and Gen X men have been posting about UX, in particular, at a very high clip.

Facebook IQ's predictive tools analyze the long-term consistent growth of a topic on Facebook. Using data from hundreds of thousands of conversations, the social network said it's able to forecast what discussions will continue to escalate based on how other topics normally trend upward in volume, variance and rates of consistent growth. When predicting whether chatter around specific topics will increase, Facebook stated that early tests have been 80 percent accurate.
