MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” Hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinksi took to the stage and emceed the Washington Press Club Foundation Dinner Wednesday night, as best as anyone could with all the chatter.
Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.) and Rep. Mike Pence (R-Ind.) provided the entertainment. But the real man of the hour was Mike Allen – though only a small percentage of the crowd could really say they got through the 11-page NYT mag piece on him posted online yesterday morning. Allen said yesterday alone reeled in 6,500 new readers to sign up for Playbook.
Many D.C. outlets had contingencies on hand. The Hill (which hosted the afterparty): Editor Hugo Gurdon, Managing Editor Bob Cusack, Christina Wilkie, Sean J. Miller, Eric Zimmermann, A.B. Stoddard, Michael O’Brien, Jennifer Yingling, Jordan Fabian and J.T. Rushing.
Politico was out in full force too – Executive Editor Jim VandeHei, Jonathan Allen, Manu Raju, Kasie Hunt, Carrie Budoff Brown and Ken Vogel. Also there from the print and online worlds: WaPo’s Marcus Brauchli, HuffPost’s Peter Cherukuri, TWT’s Joe Curl, Daily Caller’s Moira Bagley, plus NJ’s Erin McPike, Roll Call’s Jackie Kucinich, Jessica Brady, and Shira Toeplitz.
On the TV side: Fox News’ Major Garrett, Bret Baier, Chad Pergram, CNN’s David Bohrman, Sam Feist, Brianna Keilar (now a brunette!), Edie Emery, NBC’s Mark Whitaker, Kelly O’Donnell, Luke Russert, Ken Strickland, Carrie Dann, CBS’ Nancy Cordes, Christine Delargy, and Jill Jackson.
Katie McCormick Lelyveld and Jen Psaki repped the White House and Hill-types like Doug Heye, Brian Walsh, Scott Mulhauser, Michael Steel and Shannon Flaherty mingled.
PR exec and writer Janet Donovan kindly shot and provided the photographs. CQ-Roll Call hosted the pre-party.
