Adobe Reader for Android 2.1 Released

Hot on the heels of the release Adobe Flash for Android beta, Adobe announced:

Introducing Adobe Reader for Android

There are a number of free PDF readers available for Android, so this isn’t a particularly exciting announcement or even a previously desired product. Moreover, it only works on devices running Android OS 2.1 or newer. So, don’t bother installing it on an older device that can’t be upgraded. Adobe specifically mentions support for the Nexus One and Droid/Milestone. However, it presumably can run on the recently updated Droid Eris as well as newer devices like the HTC Incredible.

Adobe notes the following features for this Android app release:

– Multi-touch gestures, like pinch-and-zoom, double-tap-zoom, flick-scrolling and panning
– “Reflow” mode, which takes text-heavy documents with wide margins, and automatically wrap the content for easy viewing on smaller screens
