ADP: 32,000 Private Jobs Added In April

In advance of the government’s unemployment numbers coming Friday, payroll giant ADP predicts that the economy has added 32,000 private jobs in the month of April.

ADP believes that while jobs in the service-providing sector grew by 50,000, construction jobs fell by 49,000, the thirty-ninth consecutive decline.

When the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ unemployment report is released Friday, it will include private employment as well as public employment–which is going to rise thanks to increased hiring for the 2010 census, so the government’s number is expected to be much higher than ADP’s cautious one.

This chart shows the percentage change of job growth in service-providing industries (which includes media); ADP’s numbers are in dark blue and the recession is marked in gray.
