Facebook Tuesday introduced Memories, a new section where people can access moments shared with family and friends.
Memories is accessible via the bookmarks to the left of News Feed on desktop, via the More tab in the bottom-right corner of Facebook’s flagship mobile applications, and also via notifications and messages users may see in their News Feeds, or simply clicking here.
Facebook official rolled out On This Day in March 2015, after extensive testing, and the social network had to make adjustments to the feature later that year to help users avoid seeing things they didn’t want to see, introducing two filters to block out specific users, dates or date ranges.
Other content that can be found in Memories includes:
- A list of friends that were made on this date in the past, including special videos or collages to celebrate” friendversaries.”
- Seasonal or monthly recaps of memories bundled into messages or short videos.
- Posts in the Memories section from the past week that users may have missed.
Hod said, “We know that memories are deeply personal, and they’re not all positive. We try to listen to feedback and design these features so that they’re thoughtful and offer people the right controls that are easy to access. We work hard to ensure that we treat the content as part of each individual’s personal experience, and we are thankful for the input people have shared with us over the past three years.”
