Amazon Preempts iPhone 5 Launch With Press Event Next Week

There’s some hot speculation going around today about Amazon’s press event next week.

Amazon starting sending out invitations today for an event next week in NYC. No one has any solid info, but that’s not stopping everyone from speculating about the possible Kindle tablet. The tablet will cost both $250, $350, and it will cost the same price as an iPad. It will have both a 7″ screen and a 10″ screen. it’s going to run Linux Android Honeycomb, and Amazon’s proprietary OS on a dual core Nvidia Tegra 2 CPU, a Samsung CPU, a quad core Nvidia Tegra CPU, and a Texas Instruments OMAPs CPU. (I believe the in-house product name for this device was the DeathStar.)

I know the above paragraph is silly; I wanted to sum up all the rumors about the tablet just to show you how crazy some of the rumors were.

But in all honesty I suspect that Amazon scheduled the event for next week because Apple will be holing a press conference on the 4th of October. Clearly Amazon wants to get its news in ahead of Apple.
