Reports started appearing on Friday (May 22) that some Nexus One units were getting over the air (OTA) updates to Android OS 2.2 (Froyo) which was formally announced the day before. My Nexus One, unfortunately, was not among those earlier OTA updates. Anxious to take a look at Froyo myself, I looked around and found this item over on Droid-Life.com:
It provided links to the updates on a couple of sites that seemed a bit suspect. However, the 11-step update procedure provided looks reasonable. So, I noted the instructions and went looking for a safer firmware update source.
That led me to this Engadget article
with a download link pointing at android.clients.google.com. That seemed like safer and reasonable source. So, I downloaded the ZIP file for it. Unfortunately, that link doesn’t resolve now either.
Using the instructions provided by Droid-Life, I waited patiently for the update process to complete. You can see the result in the screen photo above: A successful manual upgrade to Android OS 2.2 on my Nexus One.
