Android OS 2.2 Supports LED Flash for Lighting Video Recordings (video demo)

One of the new features in Google’s Android OS 2.2 update is the ability to use an LED flash with the video camcorder. It was previously available as an option only for still photos. I stepped outside Saturday night to try out this feature.

I recorded two short video clips: One with the light off and one with the LED light on. I found that the light can’t be turned on after starting a video recording session. So, these two clips were recorded separately. The light does a reasonable job of lighting up objects as close as a few inches to a few feet away from the lens. I imagine that heavy use of video recording with the light on will drain the battery pretty quickly.
