AOL to Host Voting for Webby People’s Voice Awards

Who needs ballot boxes for the Webby People’s Voice Awards when AOL is more than willing to handle the job of handling public voting?

The Webby Awards honor excellence on the Internet, including Web sites, online film and video, interactive advertising, and mobile Web sites. Voting runs April 13-29, and the 14th Annual Webby Awards will be presented June 14 in New York. Webby Award winners and People’s Voice award winners will be announced May 4.

AOL and the Webby Awards tamed up to launch an AOL-hosted public voting site across AOL’s network of more than 80 content sites, marking the first time voting will occur outside of the Webby Awards site.

The two parties will use targeting and rich-media technologies from to place customized, contextual ads, featuring real-time voting results, across AOL’s sites, and AOL will provide editorial support to boost participation in the voting process.

Webby Awards executive director David-Michel Davies said:

We’re thrilled to be working with AOL on taking the Webby People’s Voice Awards to an exciting new level this year. AOL’s network of sites will give millions of more people an opportunity to help decide who will win a Webby Award.

And AOL Advertising vice president of marketing Allison Tepley added:

AOL celebrates digital creativity and innovation on our network of sites and across the Web. We look forward to bringing the People’s Voice Awards to our users and are honored that the Webby Awards team entrusted AOL to host this program. David Cohen is editor of Adweek's Social Pro Daily.
