April Showers Bring May Jobs? Weekly Unemployment Down Again

Claims from newly-laid off workers fell last week to 444,000, the Department of Labor reported today bringing the four-week average to 450,500.

Initial claims have inched just 2.2 percent lower since the beginning of 2010, but they’re 29 percent lower than this time last year, MarketWatch reports.

Altogether, just over 10 million people were collecting some type of unemployment benefits in the week ended April 24 (the most recent week data is available).
