If its recently released revenue figures are any indication, Slate is doing just fine despite the woes of sister publication Newsweek. The Slate Group (which, like Newsweek, is a part of The Washington Post Co.) has announced that revenue rose 52% in the first quarter and ad revenue is up 30%. Says AdWeek:
Slate officials noted that several blue-chip brands had signed on in Q1 as exclusive advertisers, including Ford, which sponsored the launch of the site’s new video venture SlateV.com, as well as Mercedes-Benz USA and Acura–both of which sponsored specific editorial packages.
We may find out more about Slate’s progress, and what’s going on with Newsweek, when The Washington Post Co. announces its first-quarter results tomorrow.
