World of Tanks Blitz turns two years old this month, and to celebrate, Wargaming released a new update for the tank battle game, introducing seasonal milestones and more to players. In World of Tanks Blitz, players have access to more than 200 tanks, and they will compete against other players in seven-vs-seven multiplayer tank battles.
As part of this update, the game received content related to the Euro 2016 soccer event. Specifically, during the month of June, players can complete exclusive battle missions to earn new skins for their tanks.
Elsewhere, the game’s new seasonal milestones will allow players to receive bonus experience points and credit multipliers every three months after they’ve first purchased a tank.
In addition, the game received its first French tank, the FCM 50t. While the tank is classified as a “heavy” tank in World of Tanks on PC, it is classified as a “medium” tank in World of Tanks Blitz.
In an interview with SocialTimes, Carlo Delallana, senior producer of World of Tanks Blitz, explained the change:
We’re reclassifying the tank as a “medium” so that it fits more with the smaller maps and the faster play style for Blitz. In essence, not only are we introducing the first French tank, but we’re also tailoring it so that it’s very specific for use in World of Tanks Blitz.
Finally, the app’s latest update added new features to the game’s Training Rooms, including chat functionality, support for friendly fire and support for a battle score inside the team. Users can also now send personal invites to users to join training rooms.
Training Rooms allow gamers to play with others in ways not supported in the main game, and they’re part of a bigger plan for the future of World of Tanks Blitz. Delallana explained:
With the introduction of Training Rooms, this was our first small step into trying to grow Blitz as a competitive gaming title. Obviously, we’ve seen the success of a few mobile games out there that have tried to enter the competitive game space, and we believe that our pedigree in World of Tanks PC really positions Blitz for more competitive gaming.
Going forward, Delallana said the game will be updated with official tournaments, allowing players to compete against other users of the same skill levels, or players in different clans. This will be a different setup than the game’s default matchmaking system, which combines players into groups at random so all users can find matches to play.
(Tournaments are) going to be a very exciting development for a lot of our really hardcore players, but also for a lot of our new players that are coming in, that want to participate in these tournaments as well—to essentially have a more controlled experience that is hyper-focused on competitive play, rather than just playing for fun.
World of Tanks Blitz is available to download for free on the iTunes App Store and Google Play. The game is also available to download for free on Windows 10 and the Mac App Store. World of Tanks Blitz has been downloaded more than 40 million times since its release in 2014.
