Following last week’s nominations for the 2013 National Magazine Awards, the American Society of Magazine Editors (ASME) has announced the finalists for the year’s top prize, Magazine of the Year, which honors “editorial excellence in all Magazine Media, including print, online, tablets and smartphones.” ASME didn't take any risks with this year’s nominees, three of which—Glamour, National Geographic and Time—were past winners. Also nominated were Esquire and New York.

All five titles have also received nominations in other categories. Esquire was nominated for General Excellence in Print, Magazine Section, Personal Service and Tablet Magazine; Glamour for General Excellence in Digital Media; National Geographic (which received the most nominations) for General Excellence in print, General Excellence in Digital Media, Photography, Feature Photography, Website, Tablet Magazine, and Multimedia; New York for General Excellence in Print, Design, Feature Photography, Magazine Section, Essays and Criticism, and Columns and Commentary; and Time for Design, Photography, and Multimedia.

Time, New York and Esquire were also finalists in the Magazine of the Year category for 2012.
