BBDO took top honors in the agency category of the Webby Awards.
The Omnicom Group agency far outdistanced other shops by garnering a dozen awards. The work recognized includes “Love Project” for Starbucks; “HBO Imagine” for HBO, done in partnership with The Barbarian Group; and “A Day in the Life of Innovation” for GE.
BBH and TBWA\Chiat\Day both received four awards, followed by DDB Stockholm and Wieden + Kennedy with three apiece.
The awards include People’s Choice honors and winners from a panel of judges that included R/GA CEO Bob Greenberg, Ogilvy chief digital creative officer Lars Bastholm and MDC Partners chief creative insurgent Alex Bogusky.
Wieden + Kennedy’s “Chalkbot” effort for Nike, which sprayed user messages on the roads of the Tour de France, won for best integrated media plan and online campaign. DDB Stockholm’s “The Fun Theory” for Volkswagen, which turned stairs into a working keyboard to encourage people to be more active, took honors in the online guerilla and innovation and online campaign categories
R/GA won the Webby Agency of the Year award last year, the first time the show presented the honor.
The Webbys said it tallied more than 1 million votes from users this year.
The winners will be honored on June 14 at a ceremony in New York that features the Webbys’ traditional five-word acceptance speeches. B.J. Novak from The Office is hosting the awards show, which will honor computer scientist Vint Cerf with a Lifetime Achievement Award and film critic Roger Ebert as Person of the Year.
