During a brief visit to London last week, BuzzFeed founder Jonah Peretti found time to sit down for lunch with Guardian head of media Jane Martinson. The result is a delectable piece filled with fun morsels.
One of those morsels involves Nick Denton:
Denton, the acerbic founder of Gawker who once said “Buzzfeed will collapse under the weight of its own contradictions,” says in an email that BuzzFeed’s “mission is to reinvent advertising,” and “Jonah Peretti is the most flexible person I know. I say that in admiration.”
Martinson reminds that Peretti is due to move from New York to Los Angeles in the New Year and when she asked him to highlight his favorite BuzzFeed content, he came back with three strands. One is the site’s investigation into sexual misconduct at L.A.’s all-girls Marlborough School. Last month, former English teacher Joseph Koetters, exposed by the reporting, was sentenced to one year in jail and five years’ probation.
