BuzzFeed Celebrates Record-Breaking November

The funniest part of today’s BuzzFeed announcement about the site having welcomed a jaw-dropping 130-million-plus unique visitors last month is the following sentence:

As first reported by BuzzFeed, much of this growth was driven by Facebook’s recent shift towards driving traffic to quality publishers.

Not to take away anything from Jonah Peretti’s hard-working gang, but we would hope that the first to know about BuzzFeed traffic patterns are folks at BuzzFeed. On the bright side, it’s unlikely a competitor would be rushing to post this kind information if they somehow scooped the listicles gang.

Also, BuzzFeed may have buried the lede. Forget about that bump from Facebook starting in August thanks to the social network’s new algorithms. FishbowlNY was more blown away by this final bullet point:

More people visited BuzzFeed in November than in the first four years of the site’s existence.

Wow. Reminds us of an old stat people were fond of quoting a few years ago, to the effect that YouTube was using as much bandwidth as the entire Internet in 2001. Congrats to everyone at BuzzFeed on a very impressive accomplishment.
