Kerry Washington has resurfaced, as HBO revealed on Tuesday the first image of the actress in her latest role in the network’s new film Confirmation. The much anticipated telefilm will feature the story of famed law professor and attorney, Anita Hill, played by Washington — also serving as an executive producer on the project.
In 1991, Hill testified against then-Supreme Court nominee, Clarence Thomas, before all-white, all-male Senate Judiciary Committee — accusing Thomas of “repeated acts of sexual harassment” while she had worked for him 10 years prior.
Thomas would deny the allegations and would be ultimately be confirmed by a 52 to 48 vote (the narrowest margin in a century), but Hill’s testimony would spark a national debate about sexual harassment and women in the workplace.
HBO has yet to set a release date for the film.
