On the heels of a scintillating cover for trade magazine Chilled, Christie Brinkley has followed with what Sports Illustrated labeled late Monday night as breaking news. At age 63, she is back in the pages of the Time Inc. publication’s blockbuster annual Swimsuit Edition, this time with daughters Sailor and Alexa.

Brinkley appeared on the issue cover in 1979, 1980 and 1981. She was stunned when she got the invite from editor MJ Day for this year’s Swimsuit Edition and tells the magazine it amounts to a truly emotional milestone:

“This is a real full circle moment for me,” Christie said. “How many years ago, I was that insecure girl hoping that I would be good enough for the magazine. So to see my daughters now having the same thoughts I had, and to be able to see them actually be there on the job, was definitely a big moment.”

“I couldn’t even believe my ears when I got the call that MJ wanted to shoot my daughters and me. I was thrilled.”

Time Inc. sister publication People has a companion interview piece with Brinkley and her daughters, who shot the photos in Turks and Caicos, in the upcoming issue. The 2017 Swimsuit Edition hits newsstands Feb. 15.

P.S. Getting back to the breaking news” designation, perhaps SI was referring to mom’s apparent magical ability to walk on water. Kudos to whoever was responsible for that photo composition element.
