This innovative and inspiring leader will run one of the most popular political offerings on the web and mobile. S/he has a bold editorial strategy for all of CNN’s digital politics coverage, including our existing offerings and assets such as CNNPolitics.com, the Political Ticker, Polling Center, Gut Check newsletter, CNN’s massive politics social presence, shows, beats, blogs and franchises that fuel our coverage in and outside of DC.
This editor will launch new digital politics products for CNN and also have clear thoughts on which efforts to create, reshape or sunset. This is a bold thinker who brings people and ideas together, an organizer, a communicator who loves politics and all things DC. S/he will lead a team of journalists to execute on that strategy daily, creating a more powerful digital political presence and product for CNN.

The Washington managing editor for CNN Digital is a member of the senior management team for the entire DC bureau as well as the digital editorial team. S/he spots unique angles on the top stories of the day and assigns those to the best and brightest across the bureau and beyond. This editor is also responsible for the planning and execution for events, from elections small and large, to nominations and other events.
This editor will form strong relationships throughout the entire DC bureau, looking for ways to conspire to create head-turning political journalism. In addition to tight relations with the DC shows and newsgathering teams, this editor will have close ties with the CNN Wire, CNNMoney, CNN.com/opinion, the CNN Digital staff and newsgathering team at large and beyond as stories and projects merit.
This is a multimedia job — not a ‘text’ job – we are looking to expand our video and visual presence, and when it comes to the written word, we will continue to steer away from the staid pyramid write and into more creative visual and text presentations, packed with voice and surprising angles.
This editor is a voracious consumer of political journalism and news and has a competitive streak and a hunger for scoops and exclusives. S/he has superb knowledge of the digital landscape, constantly keeping tabs on the competitive set across desktop, mobile, TV and social. Speaking of social, this is someone who is inclined towards shouting, swaggering and using our powerful social presence and alerts to get the word out about good work and, beyond promotion, integrate social into stories and projects. And this person is addicted to measurable success in its many forms – real time and daily traffic, SEO, social shares and referrals, etc.
Like so many journalism jobs these days, this position calls for someone with strong editorial chops, strong leanings towards product strategy, and the ability to create a digital brand out of some of the best names and strongest assets in the biz.
