Visual media is taking over the digital and social media landscape. Indeed, the demand for high-quality images, video, infographics and other visual content has only increased in recent years, and it is expected to continue indefinitely. While the need for visual media never abates, what does change are the styles and trends.
Image marketplace EyeEm analyzed content from its community of more than 20 million photographers and identified three specific trends for the spring and summer seasons: color, subjects and styles.
The strongest color trend this season seems to be color blocking, with highlights of black and red, silver and “millennium pink.” Designer Isaac West uses all of the above in some of his recent work on Instagram, and he even uses his subjects’ skin, hair and clothing to create dynamic color blocking.

While the color trends are more popular on Snapchat, EyeEm head of photography Xavier Antoinet told Social Pro Daily that “gender blend” and femininity, two of our visual trends for this season, are popping up on Twitter due to the political nature of the platform.” Feminine power is also making a strong showing on Instagram, where you can expect images of women displaying natural strength, defying body shaming standards and embodying the beauty of motherhood.

According to Antoinet, the lifestyle trend in photography took a “blogger-esque” or “hipster” approach: cool local coffee shops and close-ups of avocado toast. However, he added, there’s a “new bohemian” trend on the rise.
He told Social Pro Daily:
(It’s) a look at how people travel the world. This style focuses on traveling slowly, taking the time to escape and adventure to unique places. 2017 seems to be the year of the train.
