Constant Contact Acquires NutshellMail

NutshellMail, one of the early participants in the fbFund, has been acquired by Constant Contact, the email marketing provider. The acquisition aims at providing small organizations with a tool “to monitor and engage with social networks right from their email inbox”. It’s a pretty obvious acquisition opportunity as NutshellMail is one of the only email marketing companies in the social media space.

Constant Contact also announced plans to “add more social media marketing tools in the coming months” to NutshellMail which will help small businesses. It’s a necessary step for Constant Contact which until mail, has not been deeply integrated into the social media landscape. While terms of the acquisition were not announced, we’d assume the deal was in the low 8 figure range.

NutshellMail has been working on adding features for the past couple years, something that we’ve been covering the evolution of on AllFacebook. Most recently, the company announced a service for Facebook Page administrators to easily create email newsletters for their fans. In essence, the company has become the leading social media marketing email service, focused mostly on Facebook (given that the company was part of the original fbFund).

With the acquisition, the company is now also able to bring on more employees and is now actively recruiting for the company’s Menolo Park office. Below is a video from Constant Contact and the NutshellMail founders announcing the acquisition.
